A couple weeks in California: Week one at Master's College

Friday, March 4, 2005

On Saturday, February 19, Tiffany, Silas, and I went with some of the young people from church to California.  For a week we visited The Master's College in Santa Clarita, CA.  We also got to see Grace Community Church, Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Hollywood (the stars on the side walk - Gene Kelley was the highlight and the Hollywood sign), Beverly Hills (Beverly Hills Hotel lobby), and Universal Studios Citywalk.

We had some challenges/disappointments...

  • The rental car company closed at 6pm.  We call from LAX to get the cars (a van and car) at 6:02pm!  They had assured us they would stay open for us until 6:30pm.
  • We looked forward to hearing John MacArthur preach on the Sunday morning visiting Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA, but he wasn't there to preach.
  • we looked forward to hearing Rick Holland preach in Crossroads Fellowship on that same Sunday morning, but he was not there due to the Resolved Conference that weekend.
  • We then looked forward to hearing John Street preach in place of Rick Holland and Crossroads Fellowship, but he did not preach as scheduled because of a missionary presentation (which was good) make that morning which took more time.
  • We looked forward to hearing Scott Ardavanis on Sunday evening at Placertia Baptist Church in Santa Clarita, CA, but we found out the service started at 5pm when we got there at 6pm. :)
  • It rained 40+ inches in February where it usually rains 6 inches.

God is sovereign.  All things work together for good for those that love Him!  Our plans didn't come to fruition in every case, but that is okay.  We had other lessons to learn.

The week went well actually.  We loved spending time with the young people from our church family.  We can never get enough time with them.  we were greatly encouraged by the good teaching we did receive during the week.

God is good.

Being Silas' mommy
I love being Silas’ mommy. He now does an army crawl, pushing off with one big toe and pulling forward with one arm. It’s so cute!
The Cross Centered Life
I highly recommend this book. This is a little bitty book that has a huge message: Center your life around the gospel.
Anxiety Attacked
This book changed my life. God worked in my heart as I sat reading this book for a research project in college.

A Whole New Earth? So What? A Study of 2 Peter 3:14-18
There was a day when the people heard that the earth would be destroyed. They laughed at the thought. We have been warned again. The earth – everything – will be destroyed. The Timing of the Rapture and John 14:2-3
The study of the timing of the rapture is a large task. The theologian needs to exegete many passages in order to synthesize the teaching of Scripture on the whole topic. John 14.2-3 is a passage that is used by many pretribulationists to support their position.
