White has written this little book as an exposition of John 6.35-45.  This is an important passage of Scripture dealing with the purpose for Christ’s coming.

In this passage, Jesus explains why some people believe in Him for only a short time while others “keep believing” and never thirst.  Some men “believe,” but it is not true belief.  Some men like the benefits of ‘religion’ or the benefits of ‘being a Christian,’ but they do not have true belief.  True belief never stops.  Once a person truly believes, he never stops believing.

In John 6.37ff, Jesus explains why only some people have genuine faith.  Why do only some people have genuine faith?

  • The only ones that come to Christ are ones that are given to Him by the Father.

The Father did not give all men to Christ.  He gave only some to Christ.  That is why not all will believe.  Not everyone is selected by the Father for salvation.

  • Christ has come, not to save all men, but to save those that the Father gives to Him.

Christ has come to do the will of the Father.  Christ is completely obedient to His Father, and He is capable of accomplishing all that His Father gives Him to accomplish.  If it were the will of the Father for Christ to save all men, then all men would be saved.  But, it is not the sovereign will of the Father that all men be saved.

  • No one truly believes except those that are drawn by the Father.

To be drawn by the Father is a great gift.  It is the gift of salvation.  This “drawing” is not merely “wooing.”  All that are drawn are saved.  There is no exception.  No one resists the drawing of the Father.  When the Father draws someone to be saved, the Father causes him to truly hear and learn from God.

James White’s little 60 page book will ably lead you through a study of this passage.  At the end of your study you are sure to appreciate your salvation more than you had in the past.
