Gary-Gilley is the Pastor-Teacher of Southern View Chapel in Springfield, Illinois. I have read many of his book reviews and articles, and I always greatly appreciate them. I highly recommend his stuff.
I just read his article called, "The Lord Told Me - I Think." In the article he considers the commonly held notion that God communicates to us today outside of Scripture. He lists "three compeitors now challenging the Scriptures as final authority in our lives": subjective experience, non-authoritative and fallible prophecy (as espoused by Wayne Grudem), and the "inner" voice.
I read the article because I have been studying the topic of spiritual gifts in preparation for a series I will be teaching in November at my church. I have been amazed at how so many cessationists (those that believe the gifts of tongues and prophecy ceased with the Bible was completed) argue that God does not give prophecy today, but that He communicates through "promptings" and "impressions." R. Fowler White in his chapter in The Coming Evangelical Crisis does this, as well as John Napier in his book Charismatic Challenge. It is quite disappointing to me. Anyway, read Gilley's article and then see how he applies the same principles in his book reviews.
Lord-willing I will soon have a whole slew of book reviews on CompleteInChrist.net dealing with spiritual gifts (I have read more than 3500 pages on the subject in the last month).
